A new feature has recently been released on the Canada Revenue Agency website that will detail any uncashed cheques that the CRA may have sent over the past few years.
In most cases, an uncashed cheque will be the result of a lost or damaged cheque, possibly due to a change in address, or an accidental misplacement.
In order to determine whether you have any uncashed cheques, first login to your CRA account. On the right side of the page under “Related Services” you will have the option to select “Uncashed Cheques” at the bottom of the list.
If you do not currently have a CRA online account, you will need to sign up and will be sent a code in the mail to finalize enrollment. This can often take a few weeks to receive, but we recommend having an online account anyways in order to have access to important tax information in the future.
While most uncashed cheques will represent smaller amounts, some people have been surprised with larger amounts that had been forgotten. CRA cheques do not expire. You can cash your CRA cheque at any bank in Canada.
